Calm Assurance

Philippians 4:4-7 (New Living Translation)

4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.  6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

In yesterday's reading we saw that Elijah found peace after the uproar of wind, fire and earthquakes.  But isn't it comforting to know that we can even find peace in the midst of our storms?
If we were asked to define peace we most likely say that it is the absence of war.  But it is more than that.  The Life Application Study Bible (Zondervan) says this:

"God's peace is different from the world's peace.  True peace is not found in positive thinking, in  absence of conflict, or  in good feelings.  It comes from knowing that God is in control."

That tells me that it is that calm assurance that I am not alone and that God has control of my life.  In the scariest times of my life I have felt a sense of comfort and peace that I couldn't explain.  That is the working of the Holy Spirit when we feel peace when we least expect it!

If you're feeling frantic today here is a beautiful reasssuring scripture for you:

John 14:27 (New Living Translation)

(Jesus' words) 27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Prayer:  Thank you God for that calm assurance!
