A Guiding Love

In a previous blog I focused my thoughts on Joseph using scripture from Matthew 1. Today I want to again focus on Joseph's reaction after another angelic visit.  Our reading is from Matthew 2.

13 When they (the wise men) had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”   14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

After the wise men had left Joseph was again visited by an angel of the Lord.  His first angelic revelation assured him that he need not be afraid to marry Mary.  This time the angel warned him to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt because Herod was looking to kill the baby.

Just as he did the first time, Joseph believed and obeyed.  He did just as the angel of God instructed.  Again, I must say that I think Joseph must have been an extraordinary person.  His mind and his heart must have been so in tune with God's will.  He recognized God's voice and he listened to what God said.  More importantly, he obeyed what God said!

There is a lesson for us in Joseph's example.  God will guide us when we are open to His word.  He will speak to us but our heart and mind must be in tune with His will.

Prayer:  Thank you God for a love that wants to guide me in the right path.
