Finding Favor With God

Luke 1:26-30

26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”  29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.

Would that not be the most awesome thing to hear..."you have found favor with God!"  That is like the ultimate "high."  To find favor with our friends and loved ones is a good feeling, but to know that God is pleased with us would be an indescribable feeling of joy.

My parents were wonderful people but they weren't very vocal about telling us they were proud of us.  My Dad especially.  I so longed to know that he was proud of me.  I can remember an occasion around Christmastime when I went with him to get our Christmas ham and someone asked him if I was one of his girls.  His answer was actually a compliment to me and I can still hear those words to this day.  I actually realized at that moment that he was proud of me and it was such a happy feeling!

Mary was just an ordinary country girl who found favor with God.  Are we living each day in a way that would make us favored by God?

Prayer:  Father may everything that I say and do be pleasing in your sight.
