Make Room For Him

Luke 2:1-7
1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.   4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

I just love reading the nativity story in Luke 2.  When I was in the 2nd grade I memorized part of it for a school play and I have never forgotten those verses.  Since that time I have been mesmerized by this "greatest story ever told!"

It was intriguing for me as a little girl to picture Joseph and a very pregnant Mary going from place to place looking for somewhere to stay.  As I grew older and learned more of the story I realized how busy Bethlehem must have been at that time.  Many tourists were there because Caesar had ordered everyone to go there and register for tax purposes.  I guess it would be like trying to find a room in a city where the NCAA championship was being played.  There was absolutely no room for Jesus!

Unfortunately there are many days in which we don't make room for Him either.  And even more sadly, there are lots of people today who have no desire to make room in their heart for Him.  What an eternal tragedy.

Prayer:  Oh God, I pray for those who have no desire to invite You into their hearts.  May this Christmas be the time many will yearn to know you.
